The sun rises dramatically behind the F/V Bonnie B.E.E. early in the morning while they pick a flood set. Bonnie B.E.E. is run by former Time Bandit fisherman Mike Fourtner, who you may remember from Deadliest Catch. In the background, the sun looks a bit distorted due to the same kind of atmospheric refraction that causes stars to "twinkle." Silhouetted on the horizon are a line of tenders and processors, which the fleet relies upon to bring fresh fish ashore twice daily!

The sun sets directly over a drift gillnet boat at 11:30 PM near the summer solstice. Fun fact: due to Bristol Bay's far-north latitude, not only are days very long near the summer solstice, the sunsets themselves are also longer. The solar disk can take up to 15 minutes to sink below the horizon near the Arctic Circle, whereas the sun moves behind the horizon in under 3 minutes near the equator. These beautiful, drawn-out sunrises and sunsets make the extreme fishing hours a bit more bearable!
